KDHX Volunteer Spotlight: Ando

Ando
Host of Let Me Take You There
Thursdays 3-5 a.m.

Show Description:
“Let Me Take You There’” explores music thematically: from music tied to specific regions, music focused around a specific instrument and live music. We will explore various artists under that specific focus to take listeners “there.”

What would would you like to share with KDHX listeners and readers about yourself?
I grew up in a small Nebraska town with zero access to community or college radio.  It was a game changer when I was exposed to non-corporate radio for the first time.  I wanted to be apart of the change that I wanted to see in the world so I joined KDHX.

“Without music, life would be a mistake.”
-Friedrich Nietzsche

Please describe the inspiration for your show.
I’m a history nerd, and a music nerd, so I wanted to create a show that utilized both of those talents.  I wanted to include historical details because music isn’t created in an echo chamber, so to understand why the Apollo is a cultural institution is to understand the history of the theater.

Why does being a KDHX DJ matter to you?
I’ve always liked sharing new music with my friends.  Now I can do that on a larger scale.

Why is KDHX important to you and to your community?
KDHX is for the people and by the people. What could be more American than that?

What record do you think everyone should have in their music library?
Vinyl.

Favorite thing you are listening to at the moment?
The Olympians
