The mission of KDHX is to build community through media.

KDHX is committed to building community through media, using the power of music and education to unite and engage individuals and communities. KDHX serves as an independent, commercial-free, listener-supported radio station and believes that we must be people-centered, transparent, and honest and that our success requires partnership between staff, volunteers, donors, and listeners. 

KDHX values independence. We believe that KDHX’s independence is at the core of our ability to create content and showcase independent music without the influence of commercial interests. KDHX is committed to showcasing and promoting independent music and providing an essential point of connection for local organizations, artists, and audiences.

Recognized as a public service broadcaster and community radio station since 1987, KDHX provides commercial-free music programming locally produced by volunteers 24 hours a day. Broadcasting at 88.1 FM and KDHX.org, we rigorously curate educational music programming to platform voices traditionally underrepresented by mainstream media. 

Through our music, arts, and events calendars, short-form programs, and educational podcasts, we connect people to relevant community events and conversations. We are deeply committed to connecting audiences to local and independent artists, arts and nonprofit organizations, and fellow public media institutions.

KDHX believes that to authentically live into our mission to build community through media, the organization must be diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist. KDHX seeks to create a sense of belonging for a diverse set of board members, staff, volunteers, donors, and listeners. KDHX’s vision is reflected in our mission, purpose, and values. The KDHX Strategic Plan for 2021-2024 deepens the commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism and outlines specific steps to building capacity in these areas.
