Setting the Record Straight on KDHX’s Progress and Vision
By KDHX
This Letter To The Editor was originally published in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on November 8, 2024, in response to an article from October 30.
We were disappointed to see KDHX’s recent board meeting misrepresented in your October 30 story. During the meeting, a board member asked Executive Director Kelly Wells about a specific fundraiser, which she addressed openly. She later clarified that the "Turn it Up" campaign was only one part of our broader fundraising efforts—an important context that was unfortunately omitted from your story.
KDHX’s recent success in expanding our community reach and deepening inclusivity is something we take great pride in. Over the past year, we have increased our commitment to diversity, with 70% of our on-air volunteers now coming from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. This aligns with our mission to represent the vibrant, evolving community of St. Louis. These changes have infused the station with new energy, fresh purpose, and a renewed joy in our programming.
This evolution is only the beginning. With this foundation of inclusivity, we are excited to deepen KDHX’s impact, using the power of music and education to connect, uplift, and inspire.
It’s true that we face financial challenges, as many nonprofits do. However, we believe that by uniting around a shared vision of independent, authentic radio, we can meet these challenges together. Rather than looking back, we’re committed to moving forward in a way that truly serves the whole of St. Louis.
We know that expanded representation benefits everyone in our community, and we invite all who share this belief to stand with us and join us in supporting KDHX at this crucial time.
