KING HEDLEY II

By August Wilson
Directed by Ron Himes

Peddling stolen refrigerators hoping to open a video store one day, King Hedley, an ex-con, toils with self-worth. Getting, spending, killing, and dying in a world where getting is hard and killing is commonplace are threads woven into this 1980s installment in the author’s renowned cycle of plays about the Black experience in America. Drawing on characters established in “Seven Guitars,” “King Hedley II” shows how shadows of the past can darken the present as King seeks retribution for his mother’s lies.

Recommended for mature audiences ages 14 up.

ROMANOV FAMILY YARD SALE: A PURGATION PLAY: TOLD IN THREE DEMONSTRATIONS AND A CULMINATING MOVIEFILM directed by Lucy Cashion.

It is July 1919, one year after the last ever Russian Tsar, Tsarina, and their children were murdered. The distant, and more importantly living, Romanov cousins have set up a yard sale in a formerly Tsar-sponsored Russian theatre wrecked by the Bolsheviks. No one cares about these Romanovs, but they are Romanovs nonetheless. Join them in a very real theatre play and a very real yard sale where everything must go!

The sale runs from July 4th-20th at the Kranzberg Blackbox Theatre (501 N Grand Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63103.) Shows are Thursday-Saturday, 8 pm. Tickets are available via Metrotix: $25 for adults, and $15 for those under 26 with ID at the door.

GET STUMPED every First Thursday with 45 trivia questions from a variety of categories, designed to astound, gob smack, flummox, baffle, bamboozle, and vex! If you answer just one question correctly, you've done the impossible. If they're all too hard, ya can't say you weren't warned by the very name of the event itself! That said, I have never agreed with a single person I've ever heard say the words "I'm not good at trivia" We all have our niche! We begin around 8:45PM, so arrival by 8:30PM is recommended. We play three games. Show up late to catch the second or third game, or leave after the first or second game if you have an earlier bedtime or somethin' else to do! Prizes will be awarded for each game as well as a grand prize for highest score of the entire night. (It's mostly drinks. This is a bar, after all.) Team size is limited to SIX per team, and admission is FREE. (But buy some drinks. This is a bar, after all.)

I'll also typically do my best to ensure that there's free, fresh popcorn available on-site in basically whatever amount you could wish for. BRING YOUR OWN Bowl or Cup! Show What Ya Know, And Learn What Ya Don't! Every First Thursday at Saint Louis's premiere boutique trivia event, in the #1 bar of downtown: The Crack Fox. It's IMPOSSIBLE TRIVIA.

Set your passions alight with this steamy opera full of love, seduction, and betrayal.

Follow the fate of Don José, a naïve soldier who falls under the spell of the fiery gypsy Carmen and abandons his duty and his love for Micaëla, a sweet country girl. But Carmen's free spirit and seductive charms lead her to another man, the handsome bullfighter Escamillo, and drive Don José to jealousy and violence.

With unforgettable melodies like the 'Habanera' and the 'Toreador Song', Carmen is a thrilling spectacle of love, lust, and betrayal. Come see why Bizet’s masterpiece of operatic romance and drama is one of history’s most popular operas ever written.
